This was confirmed by Wey Shi, who proclaimed that he used to frequent that area in his sec sch days. tsk tsk.

The details....

*** Name: Anatolia Turkish Restaurant
*** Location: Far East Plaza #02-58/59
***Highlight: Iskender
*** DON'T: I added this section cos I think it's really worth the mention. Unless you are a fan of pure yoghurt, pls do not try their yoghurt drink. If I never remember wrongly, it's called Aryan

The ordering counter

The restuarant is divided into 2 sides, 1 for the ordering, the other section is the main dining area. The walkway separates the 2 sides. The dining area is rather quiet compared to the restaurants at Level 1. So if you are thinking of having a meal without the crowd and the noise, this is the place. But it's kinda small though.

That day which was our 2nd visit, we ordered a Sandwich Chicken Set (S$7.50) inclusive of a small plate of fries and a drink, and a Pancake Chicken Kebab (S$6.00). You can choose between beef or chicken.

Sandwich Chicken Set

the veg and the shredded chicken.

Found that the bread is a little dry. But after some random websites on Turkish food, I've concluded that Middle East food are usually pretty dry for Asians. So that's what the drink is for! haha.

The shredded chicken tasted great! It was a bit spicy. But for a person like me who can't stand spicy food, it's still tolerable. Don't expect too much for the fries though. It's not a Turkish dish afterall.

Chicken kebab

Tomato based sauce Chicken Kebab

What I really liked most is their Iskender (S$8.00). It consists of shredded beef or chicken (depending on your preference) drenched in tomato based sauce. There's also some yoghurt for you to dip the meat but it can get rather sourish.

At the end of the day, I think their friendly and approachable service helped as well.

wai kae

Botak Jones

I'm finally here to blog.

It's BOTAK JONES time!!! my newfound favourite fish & chips. i was introduced to the Clementi outlet by my good friend, wl. Recently, they opened a new outlet at Depot Road, which is right in the middle of wl's and my house. She always joked that Botak Jones is in front of my house and I can just walk straight to reach it but yet I gotta make a big detour cos it's blocked by the Telok Blangah Hill.

This fast-food stall is opened by an American and can be found in the heartland of Sg's kopitiams.

Name: Botak Jones

Locations:

32 Pioneer Sector 2, Sungei Kadut Eating House at the junction of Pioneer Sector 2 and Pioneer Sector 1 (Monday - Friday 10:00 am till 7:00 pm, Saturday 10:00 am til 5:00 pm Sunday closed)

Yue Hua Food Place, Block 608 Ang Mo Kio Ave. 5 (Everyday 11:30 noon til 10:00 pm)

Block 325 Clementi Ave 5 (Kopitiam) #01- 129 Singapore 120325 (Everyday 11:30 noon till 10:00 pm). It's just nxt to Clementi Mrt - turn right aft coming out from the control and walk straight towards the hdb flats and you will see a kopitiam.

Blk 118 Depot Lane,#01-02 Stall 10 Singapore 109754 (Everyday 11:00 am till 10:00 pm) For the guys, this is very near to CMPB/DSTA.

970A Toa Payoh North (Everyday 11:00 noon till 10:00 pm ; Brewski Jones 11:00 till 12:00 midnight)

MUST TRY!!!: Fish & Chips, especially their fries. Check out their funky webby for the menu.

Fish & Chips... $6

Cajun Chix which is kinda buried under the cheese... $7

If you like ribeyes, they have it too!

Personally, I find their fish&chips much nicer than their famous counterparts and it's more affordable too! Plus, their serving is damn hugeee. You don't have to pay for service charge and you get served. Maybe the service charge is alr included in the price but their service is very good.

There was once when I went to the Clementi outlet with my mum during lunchtime and it was super crowded. We waited for extremely long and they gave us a free serving of their new Chicken Gumbo. By the time we finished our main course, we hardly have space in the stomach for the soup. And everytime wl and I went to the Depot outlet to eat, the uncle always come over and ask us about the food and start some friendly banter with us.

But it usually gets very crowded during peak hours. So between 2.30pm to 6pm is usually a safe time for the Clementi one. The Depot one is better since there are more seats.

I would highly recommend this to people who want to try good and cheap food and it's also great for gatherings, that is if you don't mind dining at a non air-conditioned place that day.

Remember to save your stomach for this good food!

I hope this entry does justice to their food. heh.

Wai Kae

Leong Kee (Klang) Bah Kut Teh.

Alas, I have found the time to blog. I am sure this entry will interest many food lovers. This entry is also dedicated to Mincong, who keeps saying that he has tried all the food I am going to introduce. I am sure he is yet to try this.

What caught my attention to try out this store is the word “Klang”, a place in Malaysia. As I have relatives staying in that area, I used to visit them every holiday with my family. There are not much memories left about Klang, but the Bah Kut Teh is certainly something that has etched into my mind for good.

*** Name of Store: Leong Kee (Klang) Bah Kut Teh
*** Venue: Beach Road, opposite Park Royal Hotel

The stall

Warning: There is another shop around the area, claiming that the Bah Kut Teh comes from “Klang” too. I am not sure about that but it surely doesn’t taste as good as this store.

After a hard day of work, I walked along Beach Road to find a corner to settle my dinner. Knowing that crowd is constantly filling up, regardless of lunch or dinner time, I had come to a conclusion that this would be an excellent place to satisfy my stomach that night.

While I entered the shop, the menu in Chinese described a variety of food and without much consideration, I ordered 1 Bah Kut Teh. They serve different parts of the pork cooked in Bah Kut Teh and I requested “3 layer meat and pork rib mixed”. It cost me a total of S$4.90 with a bowl of rice. I also ordered home-made barley amongst other drinks like freshly made lemon tea.

Bak Kut Teh

The Bah Kut Teh was served in clay pot and as it made its way to my table, bubbles could be seen as the dish was boiling hot. After the bubbles subsided, I began my ‘feast’. It tasted so much like those that I have ate many years ago. Instantly, it brought me back to the time when I was in “Klang”. The only thing lacking was a cup of traditional Chinese tea served in small tea cups.

The meat is delicious as it contained the aroma of the soup. It was well accompanied by chili, fresh garlic and black sauce. Other than the meat, there are also “Tau Kee” (made from soya beans) seen in the picture. The soup is thick and tasty and tends to be a bit ‘sticky’.

I enjoyed every mouthful and cleared clay pot with 2 bowls of rice in no time. There are 3 other outlets at Liang Seah St. (opp Bugis Junction), Jalan Mas Puteh (opp West Coast Road) and e last one along River Valley.

*Website

I was first told about their peanut butter and condensed milk thick toast by Wey Shi. Remembered him raving about it over the phone that night after his first visit there with his good friend. Then i thought, 'Chey, it's only bread with peanut butter mah. Isn't it what we normally eat at home for breakfast? The only extra thing is the condensed milk. I also know how to add.'

But when i saw the actual toast, it looked so appetising! Especially with the generous amount of peanut butter and condensed milk which will flow onto the plate when you cut the toast. Wey Shi would always spread the extra 'flow' onto his bread so that it wouldn't be wasted. Haha. I love the thick toast itself too. Crispy and not too dry. Just nice! They also have other flavours. For durian lovers, there is the durian puree flavour. Definitely not for me though.

Thick Toast with Peanut Butter and Condensed Milk

Another thing I like is their drinks. Unlike most shops which serve their drinks in cups, theirs are served in tall glass bottles and can normally fill up to 2 cups. I usually order the 8 treasures tea (S$3.88). Their HK Milk Tea is not bad too (S$2.88). They also have other quirky combinations such as Cappucino (or coffee) with Coke and Coke with honey.

Cantonese will know that 'Tong Shui' means 'desserts'. But this place offers more than that. Their Chinese antique tables matched with bright pink and lime green walls give off a very comfy feeling. They also have 2 plasma TVs: one for the indoor diners and the other for e diners outside. The best part is they screen cable channels, mostly Chinese movies. I even managed to watch half of Rob-B-Hood there. Sometimes, they also show EPL matches.

So if you are looking for a nice place to chill out and watch soccer matches/movies at the same time and getting sick of pubs and macs, this is the place!

wai kae

awfullychocolate's hei ice-cream

Chocolate is one of women's love. Always wanted to try it but don't really know their locations... until we found one of its shop at Katong Mall by chance.

the cute packaging that won me over.

hei ice-cream

That day we ordered a single scoop of the ice-cream for S$3 but we got one and a half scoop instead :) The 2 salesgirls' efficient and polite service made our first visit even more pleasant. We believe that after a hard day either at your work place or institution, you deserve some good “fuel” to pamper yourself and prepare for the upcoming challenges. There is a hear-say 'in order to win the battle, you have to feed your soldiers well.'

Here are the details of the first place that I will be introducing:

* Shop's Name: Special Shanghai Dim Sum “同心居”

* Address: Blk 40A, 2nd Floor of the food centre along Margaret Drive which i believe is called Commonwealth Food Centre. Nevertheless, you can find the exact location and direction, thanks to our streetdirectory.com.

* Opening Hours: Lunchtime to around 8pm. Close every Mondays.

the stall with the 2 containers of chrysanthemum tea (hot/cold) on the left.

I was first brought to this place by my mother during my secondary school days. I do not frequent this place as it is quite far from my hangout. Despite that, I will always think of this place if anyone ask me for a nice place to eat.

The menu is shown on the front of the stall. My all-time favourite is the “Guo Tie” or Fried Dumplings. The Fried Dumplings have become my favorite as the skin is crispy (when hot) and the fillings are quite tasty. It may be kind of salt-ish for some, but for me, it is just nice. In addition, there are chili sauce and vinegar to eat with. We also had noodles and steamed dumplings that day, as well as the the chrysanthemum tea.

Top (from left): "Guo Tie", steamed dumplings
Bottom: Noodles... so sorry for the pathetic portion of noodles that is shown here. we only remembered to take the photo after filling our stomachs.

You are probably wondering how much it cost for such delicious food. The dumplings are selling at S$0.40 each with a minimum purchase of 10 dumplings and the tea (Hot/Cold) is selling at S$0.10 freeflow. The noodles’ price varies depending on the quantity. The one we usually order is the small S$3.00 plate. They also sell Tom Yum soup and other types of noodles like Shanghai- style Hor Fun. I believe they do orderings for functions too, which they may probably prepare a large quantity of dumplings to drown you.

Since the place is at a hawker centre, it is probably not wise to bring your partner there for candlelight dinner. But good to go with some of your “cheapo” friends who want to enjoy good food at a low price.

If you are fan of dumplings and have the time to make your way there, do pop in and try some.

Cheers,
weyshi
